I receive tons of emails every day in my mailbox. And at times it becomes difficult to separate all those important one’s from the other junk. I was missing all my mails from my readers who send me their queries and problems via mail. So I created a new label for those mails and attached a filter to it.
Using labels for mails and filtering all the important mails can be really helpful in such situations. Label in your Gmail is just like a folder on your computer. The only difference is you can attach more than one label to a mail.
Here is step by step guide on creating a label and filter for all incoming mails.
To create a label:
- Click the Labels drop-down menu or if you have keyboard shortcuts enabled, type l. Or, just click Settings > Labels.
- Select Create new.
- Type the name of your new label and click Ok
To add messages to that label you will have to create a new filter.
To create a new filter:
- Click Create a filter (next to the Search the Web button at the top of any Gmail page).
- Enter your filter criteria in the appropriate field(s).
- Click Test Search to see which messages currently in Gmail match your filter terms. You can update your criteria and run another test search, or click Next Step.
- In the next step select “Apply the label” checkbox and then select your label from the drop down list.
- Click the create filter button and if you want to add the existing messages to that label then Check the “Also apply filter to xxxxx conversations below.” option.
- Now whenever you receive new messages in your mailbox matching that filter, you can see it under that label.
